Q: What will the audition entail?
Auditions will be conducted in small groups of around 12. You’ll be with each other in the room for the whole time slot. After warming up together, there will be many chances to improvise scenes with side coaching and creative challenges.
Q: What is being looked for during auditions?
Stage presence in silent moments
Believability in creative acting moments
Being affected by scene partners
Theatrical risk taking
Ensemble mindedness
Q: When will we know if we are called back or cast?
Quickly! Auditioners on Saturday 5/13 will know if they are invited to call backs by email that evening. Audtioners on Sunday will know shortly after the final time slot. Callbacks begin Sunday 5/14 at 12:30pm. Final casting decisions will be emailed before the end of that week.
Q: What sort of show will this become?
The ideas are still wet clay, but for now imagine a fully improvised narrative one-act play in American realism style. Past works leaned on movement styles and abstractions, but New Show Tomorrow is an experiment in restricting the palette to people simply being people at their best and worst. There are a few other ideas I'm kicking around, but much will be determined by the ensemble itself.
Q: What will the rehearsal schedule look like?
The cast will meet up on a weekday evening or weekend day once a week through the summer. As the Fringe Festival approaches, we’ll meet more frequently leading up to the show’s opening night.
Q: What will the show schedule look like?
TBD as of today, but will have confirmation from the venue by May 15. Likely 4 or 5 evening shows over two weekends of September, possibly one matinee. The Fringe Festival run Sept 7-24.
Q: Is this a paid gig?
Yes. I believe in radical transparency when it comes to money in the arts. After costs are deducted from ticket proceeds, the profits will be split according to a pirate ship model. 2 Shares for the captain, 1 share for each of the crew. If this ends up less that $200 per actor, you’ll receive $200. If it’s more, you’ll receive more.
